FMP - Primary Research
I have designed a questionnaire to help me to gather primary research for my Final Major project. I have included questions which are appropriate to my design idea of a 3D environment. I will distribute this questionnaire and collate feedback to provide a response for my research.

FMP
Questionnaire – Abandoned Hospital 3D Environment
For
my Final Major Project on my Games Design course at Salford City College I have
chosen to create a 3D environment. The environment I have chosen is an
abandoned hospital.
What objects do you think you would find in an abandoned hospital environment? Please tick 4
Beds/Stretchers/Mattresses
Privacy screens
Medical Equipment
Medical Machines
Wheelchairs
Chairs
Desks
IV/Drip stands
Computers
Filing cabinets
What textures do you think would be best to use for the following assets? Tick one for each object
Walls: Paint Tiles
Flooring: Lino Wood Carpet
Ceiling: Tiles Painted
Doors: Wood Metal
Chairs: Plastic Metal Wood Material
Beds: Metal Plastic
What kind of rooms do you think are appropriate to this environment? Tick 2

Mood Board
This is my abandoned hospital mood board. Here I have included images taken from Google which have given me inspiration for ideas towards my own environment. I have chosen objects which will be featured in my environment. I have also found images of the floor and doors which I would like to put into my environment.

Questionnaire Results
Question 1 Results
After looking at the results gathered on my questionnaire I can see that the majority of people thought that beds/stretchers and mattresses were the most popular objects you would find in a hospital environment. In contrast to this the least popular objects were computers with only 12.5% of people's choice.
Question 2 Results
The results of question 2 show me that these were the most popular textures for the following:
Walls - Paint 75%
Floor - Linoleum 56.25%
Ceiling - Paint 62.5%
Doors - Wood - 50%
Chairs - Plastic - 56.25%
Beds - Metal 56.25%
These results will help me to choose the correct textures when I export my environment into Layout.
Question 3 Results
After looking at the results given for question 3 I can clearly see that 100% of people said that a ward was the most appropriate room to have in my 3D environment. On the other hand only 12.5% of people thought that a staffroom was an appropriate room for this environment. From these results I can conclude that the rooms I should include in my environment are a ward an a patient bay as they were the most popular of the four choices.
Question 4 Results
From these results for question 4 I can see that most people chose Flickering as the most popular choice of lighting for the abandoned hospital environment. The choice which had the least responses was dark with just 6.25%.
Conclusion
After looking through all of the results that my Questionnaire has collated I can now conclude that I will use the following objects in my abandoned hospital 3D environment: Beds/Stretchers/Mattresses, Medical machines, Filing Cabinets, IV Stands/Drips and other medical equipment. I have chosen these objects as they were the most popular and I think they are the most appropriate to the environment. I have chosen to use the most popular texture results for each texture in my environment. For example: The most popular texture for the walls was paint at 75% so I will use this. The most popular rooms for the 3D environment were patient bay and ward. However these are very similar so I have decided to use both of these as well as an office as a separate room. Finally I am going to use flickering lights for the lighting in my 3D environment as I think this will be the most appropriate and will fit in with the genre.

You Tube Videos
As part of my secondary research I have chosen to include a youtube clip which features a pre existing 3d abandoned hospital environment. Watching this video has given me some inspiration. It has made me consider the layout of my own environment and has also gave me some ideas for textures.
Daily Mail Newspaper Article
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2637580/Inside-abandoned-asylum-housed-patients-100-years.html
I have used this newspaper article from the Daily Mail which talks about an abandoned Psychiatric hospital in Scotland. It was able to provide me with real life images of an abandoned environment which were in contrast to the ones that have been made using computer graphics. These images were able to give me ideas towards my own environment and also included some of the features which i have mentioned on my mood board.
